You Wanted to Know
Since you landed on this page, you’re likely trying to figure out a little more about my company, my credentials, me personally, or what the heck is up with the name “Terhune.” I mean, if you’re going to work with someone in order to help your business grow, then you have a right to make an informed decision. You get to ask what you want! So let’s start with the evolution story – not that one; Terhune Copywriting’s!
I’ve been in and around marketing and advertising in the Toledo area since I was just a kid fresh out of high school. I started at a local ad agency as a receptionist and one day wiggled my way into a pitch meeting. It was there that I unwittingly crafted the message and tagline for a successful marketing campaign. And I was hooked!
I learned that your choice of words matter. They matter to your brand, they matter to your customers, your employees, your investors, your prospects, and are imperative to Google (and those other search engines). They attract like-mindedness, compel a person to act, and foster loyalty.
Enter the Word Nerd
I delved into all things writing. I got trained in copywriting, fiction writing, consumer psychology, and SEO content writing. I studied and practiced and dabbled in many different ventures. But the ‘real’ training – the hands on kind – came from working inside industries and departments that offer web design, IT, healthcare, fire services, advertising, human resources, and security.
I took all that street cred and started my own business, Terhune Copywriting, in 2010. Since then I’ve helped clients define their brand voice, identify their perfect customer, and set goals for the future. I’ve then used that information to write their website copy and create comprehensive suites of marketing material for consistency of voice; both print and digital.
It’s a Digital World (like it or not!)
With a focus on SEO (search engine optimization), my team and I develop strategies for getting you found in the marketplace by the people you most want to find you. We use tried and true methods, some “old school” stand-the-test-of-time stuff, and a bunch of newer, technologically-driven data-backed methods that only nerds know how to do. Social media and digital advertising can be tricky, so I’ll take the lead there as well. Whether it’s AdWords, Facebook Ads, email campaigns, landing and splash pages, contests, etc, it’s all done in an effort to help you secure the best return and continually improve that bottom line.
So, That Name…?
I suppose it’s easy to guess that the name “Terhune” is a family name. My Dad, Ken was an only child, born and raised in New York. He ran not just one, but two, delis there! Oh how I wish I could have munched on one of those delectable Dagwood’s he would build or sneak bites of every kind of creamy, crumbly, melty cheese hoping he wouldn’t notice. But I never got my chance to cause the kind of mischief I certainly would have, because for some brilliant reason, my parents decided moving to Ohio was a great idea. I suppose it had to do with the fact that my mother was raised in Ohio and her family was still here. But c’mon! Ohio over New York? (Disclaimer: I love Ohio! And I am a HUGE Buckeye Fan. O-H!)
So, my dad is building a business in Ohio, he has two daughters, and is an only child. Who will carry on the name Terhune? Oh yeah, I will, in my business! And now that he’s gone, I see him in my logo, in my company sign, in all the pieces and parts of my business. And not just for the name, but because he encouraged me to be completely and wholly “me.” He taught me to never try to be someone else; that being me was the most incredible thing, even though he liked to call me Turkey (Another disclaimer: Turkey is a good thing in bowling and my dad was an avid bowler. I imagine he liked turkey in his deli, too! 😉 ) And being me, means writing. Every. Day. I love stories. Real, fiction, a little of both. I love reading and learning and listening and talking. I love words! It’s who I am.
Terhune Copywriting is a name that pays tribute to truth of self; it’s a tribute to the man who taught me that.
I’d love to hear your story and learn more about your business, too. Let’s connect!
